On this episode of Soccer Mom Sunday, host Jennifer Siess from Mine To Define chats with Soccer Mom, Maria Hardy Tabb. Not so much a soccer player herself growing up, Maria found herself firmly in the mix of "The Beautiful Game" when BOTH of her multi-sport sons decided that THIS was the game for them! Student athletes of Christian Brothers College High School, each of her soccer players found themselves with very different COVID experiences - one in his senior high school year, while the other a freshman - and the whole family learning how to navigate along the way. With one son now at Maryville University in STL, and the other considering his options, listen in for her thoughts on competition, playing soccer in STL as a black athlete, and helping your kids to make the tough decisions that life throws at you.

Thursday Mar 21, 2024

Thursday Mar 21, 2024

Tom Pelizzaro comes from a loaded soccer family! 4 Generations of ballers, all starting with his father Val. Val was one of 4 STL locals that were members of the first and only medal winning USMNT in a major global competition in 1959. Tom himself continued with the torch, playing in what he justifiably describes as the "Renaissance" of STL Soccer in the mid/late 60's on...

Sunday Mar 17, 2024

It’s a family-style Soccer Mom Sunday with host, Jennifer Siess from Mine To Define, and her cousin, Angela Scarfino. This Southeast Missouri State University grad was not “raised up” in "The Beautiful Game", yes has found herself fully thrust onto the scene with her 3 kiddo players who love all things soccer rec, competitive, and STL’s own MLS team, St. Louis CITY SC. Though Angie doesn’t do "sports with running", she finds herself running to all kinds of practices, games, and more with her active soccer players - and speaks candidly on the challenges of doing so as a single mom with a less-than-willing co-parent. Listen in for her fresh-eye perspective on coaching, communication, competition, balance, and lessons from failure.

Ep 130: Shane Battelle

Monday Mar 11, 2024

Monday Mar 11, 2024

Shane Battelle is one of those names in STL Soccer that its virtually impossible to find anyone that would deny his talent, ability, and character. One of the brightest stars in the early 90's, Shane was part of some incredible teams, with even more incredible players (Sorber, McBride, Reyna), and was always part of the conversation when it came to "that guy." A total class act with an extreme understanding of who he is, where he came from, and even more importantly, where he's going.
Please enjoy... we absolutely did!

If you are a soccer player in St. Louis, there’s a good chance you’ve played with or against, OR have been coached by Shawn Morrison McAteer. AND, you could be currently playing WITH her somewhere on the pitch, because she’s not done just yet! On this episode of Soccer Mom Sunday, host Jennifer Siess from Mine To Define catches up her former opponent and teammate to chat about the never-ending dance with The Beautiful Game. “Shawnee” shares her own journey in the game from club to Mehlville High School to college … then teaching/coaching at Marquette High School. Listen for the wisdom and perspective of a special teacher that comes from not only the love of the game itself, but what it teaches our young players … if we let it.

Sometimes soccer gets a hold of you and never really lets go, as has been the case for soccer player-turned-coach, Laurie Kaminski. On this episode of Soccer Mom Sunday, host Jennifer Siess from Mine To Define catches up with “Ski” to chat her soccer journey from club to Mehlville High School to the St. Louis University Women’s Soccer program as a Billiken. Not quite done with the game, she went onto become “Coach Ski” with the Women’s Soccer Program at Lindenwood University, becoming one of LU's longest-serving coaches, helping to produce successful athletes on and off the pitch. Listen in for her perspective on where the game has come from, where it’s going, and how it still lures her into play from time to time.
